Where IB students in the UAE usually need help

The Diploma rarely goes wrong because a student cannot understand a topic. It goes wrong because six subjects, three internal assessments, a 4,000-word essay and CAS all come due in an overlapping few months, and the subject that gets neglected is whichever one had no deadline that week. By the time a predicted grade arrives, the gap has been building for two terms.

The other common pattern is a mismatch between school work and exam marking. A student who understands the physics can still lose a third of the available marks by answering a six-mark question in the style of a three-mark one. That is a technique problem, and it responds quickly to being addressed directly.

How the Diploma is scored

Understanding where the points come from is what makes triage possible when time is short.

ComponentContributionNotes
Six subjectsUp to 42 pointsEach graded 1 to 7, normally three at HL and three at SL
Theory of Knowledge and Extended EssayUp to 3 pointsAwarded together on a matrix of the two grades
Maximum total45 pointsA pass requires 24 points and the core conditions to be met

CAS is a requirement for the award of the Diploma but carries no points. Confirm current requirements with your school’s IB coordinator.

What tutoring covers

  • Taught content

Working through the syllabus at the level you are sitting, filling gaps left by a topic taught during a week you were behind.

  • Internal assessments

Structuring the investigation, choosing a viable research question and understanding the criteria. We coach the process; the work stays the student’s own.

  • Extended Essay

Narrowing a topic into a question that can actually be answered in 4,000 words, planning the argument, and managing supervisor meetings.

  • Theory of Knowledge

Essay structure and the exhibition, both of which reward a specific kind of argument that is rarely taught explicitly.

  • Exam technique

Past-paper work marked against the real markscheme, so a student sees where the marks actually sit in an answer.

  • Revision planning

A term-by-term schedule that treats six subjects as one workload rather than six competing ones.

Academic honesty

We help students plan, structure and understand their internal assessments and Extended Essay. We do not write them, and we do not edit submitted work into something the student could not have produced. The IB treats authenticity seriously, and so do we.

Fitting tutoring around a UAE school year

Most IB World Schools in the UAE run an August-to-June year with the May examination session, so the pressure points are predictable: internal assessment drafts through the autumn, mocks in the winter, and a final run at the syllabus from February. Students on the November session shift the whole pattern by six months.

Lessons are scheduled in UAE time, typically on weekday evenings after school or across the weekend. Because everything is online, a family in Al Ain and a family in Dubai Marina get the same tutor and the same slot options — geography stops being a constraint on who teaches you.
