IB HISTORY

IB History Tutoring for Students in the UAE

IB History examines three quite different skills in three papers, and a student can be strong in one and weak in another without noticing until a mock.

  • 3 examined components, weighted as shown below
  • 6 syllabus areas mapped to your scheme of work
  • Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
  • 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time

How it is examined

The components, what each one is worth, and what it asks for. Planning revision without this in front of you is how students spend weeks on the part that carries the fewest marks.

ComponentWeightWhat it is
Paper 1 · 60 minSL: 30% / HL: 20%Source-based questions
Paper 2 · SL: 90 min / HL: 90 minSL: 45% / HL: 25%Essay (world history topics)
Paper 3 · 150 minHL: 35%Essay (regional history, HL only)

What the syllabus covers

Unit by unit, in the awarding body’s own terms so you can match it against your school’s scheme of work.

  • Core and SL content

Authoritarian States · Causes and Effects of Wars · The Cold War

  • Additional HL content

European History (regional option) · Advanced Historiographical Analysis · Additional Case Studies

Where marks are actually lost

Paper 1 is a source paper with its own mechanics — value and limitations answered from origin, purpose and content, and a final question that has to integrate the sources with your own knowledge in a fixed time. It is the most coachable paper in the Diploma and the one students practise least, because it feels like a comprehension exercise rather than history.

The essay papers reward argument and comparison across cases, not narrative. The specific failure is the answer that covers two regions sequentially and never compares them, which is half an answer to a comparative question. The historical investigation is separate again: it is marked on method and reflection on the historian’s craft, so a brilliant narrative with a thin evaluation section still scores in the middle.

The internal assessment

The IA is marked by your teacher against published criteria and moderated by the IB. We supervise it — we do not write it, because History coursework a student cannot defend is worth less than a weaker piece they can.

  • IB Diploma Tutoring

Subject-specialist tutoring for IB Diploma students, at Higher and Standard Level, covering taught content, internal assessments and the core. Delivered online and planned around your school’s deadlines.

  • IB Pricing

The Diploma is not one thing to buy. Six subjects, an extended essay, internal assessments and TOK each need something different, and they are priced separately here so you can buy only what you need.

  • How it works

Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
