What makes TOEFL different
TOEFL is scored 0 to 120, thirty points per section across Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. What distinguishes it from other English tests is the integrated task: you read a passage, listen to a lecture that complicates it, and then speak or write a response that uses both sources. Nothing in ordinary schoolwork rehearses that.
It is also tightly timed and delivered on a computer with no going back, which means note-taking method matters as much as English. A candidate who cannot capture a lecture’s structure in forty seconds of notes will lose marks that have nothing to do with their language ability.
