Where marks are actually lost
Papers ask for pseudocode, trace tables, complexity reasoning and explanations of system-level behaviour — none of which an IDE helps with. Writing an algorithm on paper, correctly, without running it, is a distinct skill, and the students who lose marks here are usually the ones who never practise away from a computer.
The internal assessment is assessed on the development process and the documented consultation with a real client, not on the sophistication of the product. A solution that solves a genuine, narrow problem for an identified person, with success criteria agreed in advance and tested against, outscores something technically impressive with an invented brief. Choosing the client well is the first and largest decision.

The IA is marked by your teacher against published criteria and moderated by the IB. We supervise it — we do not write it, because Computer Science coursework a student cannot defend is worth less than a weaker piece they can.
