Why the UCAT is unlike school exams
The UCAT gives you a matter of seconds per question. No school exam trains that, and it is why students who are comfortably on track for A*A*A often find their first practice score alarming. The test is not measuring knowledge — it assumes none — but the ability to process information accurately at a pace that initially feels impossible.
The consequence for preparation is that untimed practice is nearly useless after the first week. Technique has to be built and then immediately compressed, which is uncomfortable and is the reason students who prepare alone often plateau: they keep practising in conditions that do not resemble the test.
