IGCSE Business Studies Tutoring for Students in the UAE
The content is short and the marks are in application. Naming the theory earns little; using it on the business in front of you, with the figures given, is what the case-study paper is for.
- 2 awarding bodies, each examined differently — both set out below
- 16 syllabus areas mapped to your school’s scheme of work
- Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
- 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time
How Business Studies is assessed, board by board
2 awarding bodies examine Business Studies and they do not do it the same way. Find yours below — each block names the syllabus it came from and the date it was checked. If you do not know which board your school entered you for, the specification code is on the front of the syllabus and on every past paper.

- Pearson does not tier this subject: every candidate sits the same papers and every grade is reachable from them. That removes the entry-tier decision entirely, which is one of the practical differences between the two boards.

Weightings are the awarding body’s own published figures. Where a board tiers the entry, the same weighting applies to both tiers — what changes is the grade range available.
What students usually need help with
Not a list of topics — a list of the specific things that cost marks in Business Studies regardless of how well the content is known.
Application to the case
Answers that would fit any business score in the low bands. Using the company’s name, numbers and situation is the difference, and it is a writing habit.
Calculations
Break-even, cash flow and ratios appear every series and are the part students with strong written answers most often avoid.
Justified recommendations
The final question usually asks for a decision. The marks are for the justification and the rejected alternative, not for the choice itself.
Reading the case properly
The stimulus contains the marks. Students who skim it and rely on theory leave most of the application marks unclaimed.
What the syllabus covers
The content both boards cover, grouped by area. Unit names and their order differ by specification — this shows the shape of the course; your own syllabus shows what is examinable.
Business activity and the enterprise
Business objectives and stakeholders · Types of business organisation and sources of finance · Growth, economies of scale and business failure · The impact of the external environment
People in business
Motivation theory and methods of payment · Organisational structure, delegation and communication · Recruitment, selection and training · Employment law and industrial relations
Marketing and operations
The marketing mix and market research · Segmentation, branding and product life cycle · Methods of production and scale · Quality, inventory and location decisions
Finance and accounts
Cash flow forecasting and working capital · Costs, break-even analysis and margin of safety · Income statements and statements of financial position · Ratio analysis and interpreting financial data
Where marks are actually lost
The case-study paper is marked on application, and the test is simple: if the answer would read identically about a different company, it has not applied anything. Examiners look for the firm’s own numbers, its own market, its own constraint — "Zain’s cash flow is negative in months three and four, so the overdraft has to cover 12,000 dirhams before the seasonal peak" earns marks that "cash flow problems can cause business failure" never will, and it takes no more time to write.
The calculations are the second gap, and they are avoidable in both senses. Break-even, cash flow forecasts and ratio analysis appear in every series, they are worth reliable marks, and students who are comfortable writing tend to skip them in revision because they feel like a different subject. They are not difficult; they are simply unpractised, and a few sessions of arithmetic under time usually recovers a whole band on the finance questions.
Send the specification code
Two students can both be "doing IGCSE Business Studies" and sit different papers, at different lengths, with a different grade ceiling. The specification code — 0610, 4BI1 and so on — is on the front of your syllabus and on every past paper, and it is the first thing we ask for. With it we can put you with a tutor who has taught that paper; without it, the subject match can be right and the exam preparation wrong.

IGCSE tutoring is priced per subject. Starting in Year 10 rather than Year 11 is the single biggest thing a family can do to reduce what it spends.
How it works
Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
Tell us where Business Studies is going wrong
Send a recent piece of marked work or a past paper with the marks on it, and tell us the specification code. That shows us more in five minutes than a description of the problem does in an hour.
