IGCSE Accounting Tutoring for Students in the UAE
Accounting is the most forgiving IGCSE to revise and the least forgiving to write. The rules are finite and learnable; the marks depend on putting the right figure in the right statement in the right format.

How Accounting is assessed, board by board
2 awarding bodies examine Accounting and they do not do it the same way. Find yours below — each block names the syllabus it came from and the date it was checked. If you do not know which board your school entered you for, the specification code is on the front of the syllabus and on every past paper.
Cambridge International
Cambridge IGCSE Accounting (0452)
| Component | Weight | Length | What it asks for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Multiple Choice | 30% | 1 hour 30 min · 40 marks | multiple choice |
| Paper 2: Structured Written Paper | 70% | 1 hour 45 min · 100 marks | structured questions and calculations |

Pearson Edexcel
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Accounting (4AC1)
| Component | Weight | Length | What it asks for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Introduction to Bookkeeping and Accounting | 66.6% | 2 hours · 100 marks | structured questions and calculations |
| Paper 2: Financial Statements | 33.3% | 1 hour 15 min · 60 marks | structured questions and calculations |
- Pearson does not tier this subject: every candidate sits the same papers and every grade is reachable from them. That removes the entry-tier decision entirely, which is one of the practical differences between the two boards.
- Two thirds of the Pearson grade sits in the first paper; Cambridge splits 30/70 across a multiple-choice paper and a structured one. Either way the marks turn on format precision — a correct figure in the wrong statement scores nothing on both boards.

Weightings are the awarding body’s own published figures. Where a board tiers the entry, the same weighting applies to both tiers — what changes is the grade range available.
What students usually need help with
Not a list of topics — a list of the specific things that cost marks in Accounting regardless of how well the content is known.
Format precision
A correct figure in the wrong statement, or an income statement with the wrong subtotal order, loses marks the student has genuinely earned conceptually.
Year-end adjustments
Accruals, prepayments and depreciation are where most of the difficulty concentrates, and they are examined every series.
Working under time
Long statement questions reward speed with accuracy, which only comes from having produced the layout many times.
The multiple-choice paper
On Cambridge it is 30% of the grade, tests the whole syllabus, and rewards a kind of precision that essay-style revision does not build.
What the syllabus covers
The content both boards cover, grouped by area. Unit names and their order differ by specification — this shows the shape of the course; your own syllabus shows what is examinable.
The accounting system
The accounting equation and double entry · Books of prime entry and ledger accounts · The trial balance and correction of errors · Bank reconciliation statements and control accounts
Financial statements
Income statements for sole traders · Statements of financial position · Adjustments: accruals, prepayments, depreciation, irrecoverable debts · Partnerships, limited companies and clubs, where prescribed
Analysis and interpretation
Profitability and liquidity ratios · Interpreting results for a stakeholder · Inventory valuation and its effect on profit · Accounting principles and their application
Where marks are actually lost
This is the subject where understanding and marks diverge most often. A student can know exactly why a prepayment reduces the expense and still lose the marks by entering it on the wrong side, omitting the narrative, or presenting the statement in an order the mark scheme does not recognise. Format is not pedantry here: it is the thing being assessed, because accounting is a set of conventions and the exam tests whether the candidate has internalised them.
The practical consequence is that revision has to be productive rather than receptive. Reading worked examples builds a false sense of readiness; producing full statements to time, from a trial balance and a list of adjustments, builds the thing being marked. Most students need fewer topics and more repetitions — and the Cambridge multiple-choice paper, at 30% of the grade, rewards exactly the precision that this kind of practice produces.
Send the specification code
Two students can both be "doing IGCSE Accounting" and sit different papers, at different lengths, with a different grade ceiling. The specification code — 0610, 4BI1 and so on — is on the front of your syllabus and on every past paper, and it is the first thing we ask for. With it we can put you with a tutor who has taught that paper; without it, the subject match can be right and the exam preparation wrong.

IGCSE Tutoring
Subject tutoring for Year 10 and Year 11 students working towards IGCSE or GCSE. Lessons follow your school’s board and specification, with past papers from the start rather than at the end.
IGCSE Pricing
IGCSE tutoring is priced per subject. Starting in Year 10 rather than Year 11 is the single biggest thing a family can do to reduce what it spends.
How it works
Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
Tell us where Accounting is going wrong
Send a recent piece of marked work or a past paper with the marks on it, and tell us the specification code. That shows us more in five minutes than a description of the problem does in an hour.
