AP UNITED STATES HISTORY

AP United States History Tutoring for Students in the UAE

APUSH is a skills exam wearing a content exam’s clothes, and students outside the United States are often better placed than they expect.

  • 3 examined components, weighted as shown below
  • 9 syllabus areas mapped to your scheme of work
  • Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
  • 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time

How it is examined

The components, what each one is worth, and what it asks for. Planning revision without this in front of you is how students spend weeks on the part that carries the fewest marks.

ComponentWeightWhat it is
Section I-A: Multiple Choice40%55 stimulus-based questions in 55 minutes.
Section I-B: Short Answer20%3 short-answer questions in 40 minutes.
Section II: Free Response40%1 Document-Based Question (DBQ) and 1 Long Essay Question (LEQ) in 1 hour 40 minutes.

What the syllabus covers

Unit by unit, in the awarding body’s own terms so you can match it against your school’s scheme of work.

  • Periods 1–3 (1491–1800)

Pre-Columbian societies and colonisation · American Revolution and the Constitution · Federalists vs Anti-Federalists and the early republic

  • Periods 4–6 (1800–1898)

Westward expansion, Manifest Destiny, displacement of Indigenous peoples · Civil War, Reconstruction and industrialisation · Gilded Age, immigration and social-reform movements

  • Periods 7–9 (1898–Present)

World wars, Cold War and global US power · Civil Rights movement and social transformation · Modern era: 9/11, globalisation, polarisation

Where marks are actually lost

The document-based question is scored on a published rubric with discrete points: thesis, contextualisation, evidence from the documents, evidence beyond them, sourcing, and complexity. Each is a specific, learnable move. A student who knows the rubric and hits each point mechanically outscores one who knows more history and writes an undirected essay — and this is the fastest route to a 4 or 5.

The content risk for students schooled outside the US is not the events but the assumed background: geography, institutions and the shape of American political argument. That is filled in fastest by building a spine of periodisation first and hanging detail on it, rather than by reading chronologically and hoping the structure emerges.

The date is not yours to move

AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.

Related programs

Other preparation tracks students often combine with this one.

  • AP Tutoring

Subject-by-subject Advanced Placement tutoring for students at American-curriculum schools across the UAE. Lessons target the exam as College Board actually marks it, not a general reading of the topic.

  • AP Pricing

AP is priced per subject, and the full-subject package is the lowest per-lesson rate on this site — because an AP is a year-long course, not a test technique.

  • How it works

Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
