How it is examined

Where marks are actually lost
The 250 required works are non-negotiable and finite, which makes the memorisation load clear rather than vague. But naming a work earns almost nothing: the marks come from using visual evidence to support a claim about function, patronage, context or influence. Students who can identify everything and argue nothing plateau well below their effort.
Comparison questions, including those pairing a required work with an unfamiliar one, reward transferable visual analysis. That is a skill built by describing works out loud against a rubric, not by reading more art history — which is why practice sessions here are mostly the student talking.
The date is not yours to move
AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.
