Where marks are actually lost
A large share of the marks is data handling: reading graphs accurately, calculating rates and percentage change, interpreting sampling data and discussing uncertainty. Answers written as environmental opinion, however well informed, score in the lower bands. The discipline to say what the figures show before saying what you think about them is the single biggest lever on the grade.
Case studies carry the rest, and they need to be specific — a named location, the actual intervention, measured outcomes. The Emirates offer unusually good material here, from desalination and water stress to managed coastlines and urban heat, and a student who builds their examples from places they can actually observe tends to remember them better than a student working from a textbook’s list.
Tell us the board first
Environmental Science is offered by AQA, WJEC, and they do not examine it the same way — different options, different papers, different mark schemes. A tutor matched to the subject without the board may be teaching the wrong specification, so it is the first thing we ask.
