A Level Economics Tutoring for Students in the UAE
Almost every student who is stuck on a B in A Level Economics knows the content. What they are missing is evaluation, and it is worth a third of the paper.
- 3 examined components, weighted as shown below
- 12 syllabus areas mapped to your scheme of work
- Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
- 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time
How it is examined
The components, what each one is worth, and what it asks for. Planning revision without this in front of you is how students spend weeks on the part that carries the fewest marks.
| Component | Weight | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Microeconomics | 33.3% | 2 hours. Markets, market failure, government intervention, business economics. |
| Paper 2: Macroeconomics | 33.3% | 2 hours. Measurement of macroeconomic performance, AD/AS, fiscal and monetary policy, international economics. |
| Paper 3: Synoptic | 33.3% | 2 hours. Synoptic data-response and essay questions integrating micro and macro across real-world contexts. |
What the syllabus covers
Unit by unit, in the awarding body’s own terms so you can match it against your school’s scheme of work.
Microeconomics
Demand and supply, elasticity, consumer/producer surplus · Market structures: perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly · Market failure: externalities, public goods, information failure · Labour markets and wage determination
Macroeconomics
GDP, inflation, unemployment, balance of payments · AD/AS model and the Keynesian/classical debate · Fiscal and monetary policy transmission · Economic growth and development
International Economics
Comparative advantage and the gains from trade · Exchange rates and the balance of payments · Globalisation, trade liberalisation and protectionism · Development economics and the role of institutions
Where marks are actually lost
Evaluation is not "on the other hand". It is a judgement supported by a reason that is specific to the case in front of you — magnitude, time frame, who is affected, what the diagram assumes and whether that assumption holds here. Students who append a memorised counter-argument to every essay score the analysis marks and almost none of the evaluation marks, and the two are worth roughly the same.
Data response fails for a related reason: the data is treated as decoration. Marks are given for using the figures — quoting them, calculating from them, noticing what the series does rather than what the topic usually does. An essay that would score well without the extract attached has not answered a data-response question. We work from real past extracts, because that habit does not build from a textbook.
Tell us the board first
Economics is offered by AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE, and they do not examine it the same way — different options, different papers, different mark schemes. A tutor matched to the subject without the board may be teaching the wrong specification, so it is the first thing we ask.

A Level Tutoring
One-to-one A Level tutoring across the sciences, mathematics and economics, matched to your exact board and specification. Lessons are online and built around past papers and mark schemes.
A Level Pricing
A Level tutoring is priced per subject at the same rate for every subject and every board. What changes the total is when in the two years you start.
How it works
Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
Tell us where Economics is going wrong
Send a recent piece of marked work or a test paper with the marks on it. That shows us more in five minutes than a description of the problem does in an hour.
