Where marks are actually lost
Research methods is not a topic, it is a thread running through every paper, and it carries marks in questions that appear to be about something else. Sampling, experimental design, reliability, validity, ethics and the statistical tests are examined in applied form — given this scenario, identify the design and justify it — which is a different skill from being able to define the terms. Students who revise it as a chapter rather than as a tool score below what they know.
The named studies are the other memory load, and the useful approach is to hold each one by what it was for rather than by its details. A student who can say which explanation a study supports, and what it fails to explain, can evaluate with it. A student who has memorised the sample size and the year cannot, and evaluation is where the top bands live.

Psychology is offered by AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and they do not examine it the same way — different options, different papers, different mark schemes. A tutor matched to the subject without the board may be teaching the wrong specification, so it is the first thing we ask.
