AP UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS

AP United States Government and Politics Tutoring for Students in the UAE

US Government is unusually specific about what you must know: a fixed list of documents and cases, examined by name.

  • 2 examined components, weighted as shown below
  • 9 syllabus areas mapped to your scheme of work
  • Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
  • 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time

How it is examined

The components, what each one is worth, and what it asks for. Planning revision without this in front of you is how students spend weeks on the part that carries the fewest marks.

ComponentWeightWhat it is
Section I: Multiple Choice50%55 questions in 1 hour 20 minutes; text, graphic and quantitative stimuli.
Section II: Free Response50%4 questions in 1 hour 40 minutes: concept application, SCOTUS comparison, quantitative analysis and argument essay.

What the syllabus covers

Unit by unit, in the awarding body’s own terms so you can match it against your school’s scheme of work.

  • Units 1–2: Constitution and Branches of Government

Drafting of the Constitution, federalism and separation of powers · Powers and procedures of Congress, Presidency and Judiciary · Bureaucracy and the role of federal agencies

  • Units 3–4: Civil Rights and Political Participation

Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment · Civil rights movement and constitutional implications · Elections, campaign finance and the role of media

  • Unit 5: Political Ideologies and Policy

Liberal and conservative ideologies · Political parties and interest groups · Public-policy formation

Where marks are actually lost

The required Supreme Court cases and foundational documents are named in the course description and appear directly in the exam. Knowing the holding, the constitutional principle at stake and how each case relates to another is a finite, memorisable body of material — and students who skip it because it feels like rote learning are declining the most predictable marks on the paper.

The argumentative essay then requires a thesis, evidence from a specified document or case, reasoning and a rebuttal. The rebuttal is the point most often dropped. It has to engage an opposing view rather than restate the thesis more firmly, and practising just that paragraph is worth a disproportionate amount.

The date is not yours to move

AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.

Related programs

Other preparation tracks students often combine with this one.

  • AP Tutoring

Subject-by-subject Advanced Placement tutoring for students at American-curriculum schools across the UAE. Lessons target the exam as College Board actually marks it, not a general reading of the topic.

  • AP Pricing

AP is priced per subject, and the full-subject package is the lowest per-lesson rate on this site — because an AP is a year-long course, not a test technique.

  • How it works

Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
