Where marks are actually lost
Gauss’s law and Ampère’s law are integral statements about symmetry, and using them well means choosing a surface or a loop that makes the integral trivial — which is a judgement, not a procedure. Students who can integrate but cannot see the symmetry argument grind through problems that should take a line, and run out of time.
Induction is the other reliable difficulty, because the sign conventions and the direction reasoning are easy to get backwards under pressure. Working through Lenz’s law problems until the direction is automatic, rather than re-derived each time, removes a category of error that otherwise recurs on every paper.
The date is not yours to move
AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.
