AP Microeconomics Tutoring for Students in the UAE
Microeconomics is a graph exam, and the free-response rubric awards points for parts of a diagram rather than for the explanation around it.
- 2 examined components, weighted as shown below
- 9 syllabus areas mapped to your scheme of work
- Taught by a specialist in this subject, not a generalist
- 90-minute online lessons, scheduled in UAE time
How it is examined
The components, what each one is worth, and what it asks for. Planning revision without this in front of you is how students spend weeks on the part that carries the fewest marks.
| Component | Weight | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Section I: Multiple Choice | 66% | 60 questions in 1 hour 10 minutes. Calculator permitted. |
| Section II: Free Response | 33% | 3 questions (1 long + 2 short) in 1 hour. Heavy emphasis on graph-based analysis. |
What the syllabus covers
Unit by unit, in the awarding body’s own terms so you can match it against your school’s scheme of work.
Units 1-2: Basic Concepts and Supply/Demand
Scarcity, opportunity cost and the production possibilities curve · Demand and supply, market equilibrium · Elasticity, consumer and producer surplus
Units 3-4: Production and Market Structures
Costs of production: short run vs long run · Perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly · Game theory and the Nash equilibrium
Units 5-6: Factor Markets and Externalities
Labour market analysis and marginal revenue product · Public goods and externalities (positive and negative) · Government intervention, Pigouvian taxes and Coase theorem
Where marks are actually lost
Correctly labelled axes, correctly shaped curves, the right intersection marked, the right area shaded — each is a separate point, and students who understand the economics but draw hastily give away marks in every question. Perfectly clean diagrams under time pressure is a motor skill that improves with drilling, and it is the single most reliable way to raise a Microeconomics score.
The other concentration is market structures. Perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition and oligopoly are examined on precise differences — where price sits relative to marginal cost, what happens in the long run, what is lost in efficiency terms — and students who learn them as four descriptions rather than as one framework with four settings tend to blur them under pressure.
The date is not yours to move
AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.

AP Tutoring
Subject-by-subject Advanced Placement tutoring for students at American-curriculum schools across the UAE. Lessons target the exam as College Board actually marks it, not a general reading of the topic.
AP Pricing
AP is priced per subject, and the full-subject package is the lowest per-lesson rate on this site — because an AP is a year-long course, not a test technique.
How it works
Every student starts with a free consultation and ends with a plan that has a date on it. What happens in between depends on which exam you are sitting.
Tell us where Microeconomics is going wrong
Send a recent piece of marked work or a test paper with the marks on it. That shows us more in five minutes than a description of the problem does in an hour.
