Why UCAT tutoring should be small and early
The UCAT is a speed and technique test sitting on top of no syllabus. There is nothing to teach in the way there is for A Level Chemistry, which means tutoring earns its money in a narrow band: showing a candidate the approach to each subtest, diagnosing which of the three cognitive sections is dragging the total down, and fixing the specific habit causing it. That work is usually five to ten lessons. Beyond that the returns fall away sharply, because what remains is volume practice, and volume practice does not need a tutor in the room.
The candidates who waste money on the UCAT are the ones who buy a large block in July and use it as supervised question practice. The ones who get value buy a handful of lessons in May or June, learn the technique, then drill alone through the summer and come back for two or three lessons if a section has not moved. Spending less here and more on your A Levels is, for most applicants, the better allocation.
Situational Judgement is scored separately
The three cognitive subtests are scaled 300 to 900 each and summed; Situational Judgement is reported as a band from 1 to 4 and does not enter that total. Schools weight the two very differently, so check how each one on your list uses them before deciding what to prepare hardest for.
One-to-one lesson packages
Every lesson is 90 minutes with the same tutor. The per-lesson rate falls as the package grows, and the single lesson exists so you can meet a tutor before committing to a block.
