IB IA and Extended Essay Grader

It marks your work against the published IB criteria, criterion by criterion, quoting your own text to show where marks are lost and what to fix first. It writes nothing for you, and the mark is an estimate, not an official one.

  • IA for Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • Extended Essay in 18 subjects, both sessions
  • One free check a day with an account
  • Feedback against the published IB criteria

IB Extended Essay Grader

Get AI feedback on your Extended Essay against the IB criteria for your exam session: the new criteria (30 marks) from May 2027, and the 2018 criteria (34 marks) up to November 2026. You get detailed feedback on every criterion and an estimated A–E grade.

Your exam session

The IB marks the Extended Essay against new criteria from the May 2027 session. If you sit your exams in November 2026 or earlier, your essay is marked against the 2018 criteria.

How is the A–E grade estimated?

The IB sets the Extended Essay’s grade boundaries again every session; there is no fixed table. So the estimate follows the grade descriptors the IB asks schools to use for predicted grades. The IB publishes your final grade at the end of the session.

IB Sciences IA Grader

Which IA is this for?

This tool is built only for the scientific investigation IA in IB Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The report is at most 3,000 words and counts for 20% of the subject grade. Maths, language and humanities IAs are marked against different criteria, so this tool does not review them.

Two graders

  • Internal assessment (IA)

For the scientific investigation in DP Biology, Chemistry and Physics, against the criteria first assessed in May 2025: four criteria, 24 marks. Maths, language and humanities IAs have their own criteria and are not marked here.

  • Extended Essay

For an essay in any of 18 subjects, against the criteria of your exam session: the new criteria from May 2027 (30 marks), or the 2018 criteria up to November 2026 (34 marks). It adds an estimated A–E grade.

The IA criteria it marks against

Biology, Chemistry and Physics share one set of internal assessment criteria, the same at SL and HL.

CriterionMarksWhat earns the top band
Research design6A research question set in a specific context, explained methodological choices, and a method detailed enough to repeat.
Data analysis6Data recorded and processed clearly and precisely, with uncertainties treated properly.
Conclusion6A conclusion justified by the processed data and compared with the accepted scientific context.
Evaluation6The relative impact of specific weaknesses in the method explained, with realistic improvements.

24 marks in total. The report is at most 3,000 words and counts for 20% of the subject grade.

The Extended Essay criteria, by exam session

The IB changes the Extended Essay criteria from the May 2027 session. Pick your session in the grader and it marks against the matching set.

The IB sets the A–E grade boundaries again each session, so the grader estimates the grade from the IB’s grade descriptors rather than from a fixed table.

How a check works

  1. Sign in

The grader needs an account, because the free check and the credits belong to it. You can sign in or create one on this page.

  2. Choose the session and the review

For an Extended Essay, pick your exam session first: it decides which criteria apply. Then choose a draft check (five short fields) or a full review (seven fields, or the whole file).

  3. Upload or type

Upload a PDF, DOCX or TXT file of up to 10 MB, or paste the parts into the fields. A scanned document has no text to read, so save it from the original file instead.

  4. Read the report

Marks for each criterion with the evidence quoted from your work, what to improve, your top priority, and a list of claims worth checking against sources. A review usually takes a few minutes.

The free check and credits

Every account gets one free check a day, shared by both graders and by every TestPrep site where you use the grader with the same account. It comes back at 04:00 UAE time (midnight UTC). After that, each check uses one credit, bought in packs of 1, 5, 10 or 20 on this site’s checkout. Credits are a digital product: they do not expire, and you can ask for a refund of a credit pack you have not used within 14 days of the payment date; once any credit from the pack has been used, it is not refunded. The free daily check does not count as use, and a check that fails on our side is not counted.

What it is, and what it is not

The grader marks; it does not write. It will not draft a paragraph, rephrase your research question or fill in a section, and that is deliberate: work you cannot defend in a viva or explain to your supervisor is worth less than a weaker piece you can, and the IB checks authenticity carefully.

The mark is an estimate. Your IA is marked by your teacher and may be changed when the IB moderates a sample; your Extended Essay is marked by IB examiners. Use the report to decide what to fix first, then take it to your teacher or supervisor.

Frequently asked questions

The questions UAE students and parents ask us most often about this program.

The report quotes your work and uses the IB’s own wording for each criterion, and IB coursework at UAE schools is usually written in English. So it is written in English on both versions of the site; the page around it follows your language.

The IA grader covers the scientific investigation in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The Extended Essay grader covers English A: Language & Literature, Turkish A: Language & Literature, Economics, Business Management, Psychology, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Philosophy, Geography, Visual Arts, Computer Science, Global Politics, Environmental Systems & Societies, English B, Math: Applications & Interpretation.

It is read to take out its text, and the file is not kept. The text is sent to the AI model that writes the report, and we do not store it or the report. What we record is that a check was made, with its subject and time, which is how the daily free check is counted.

No. It marks against the criteria and tells you which strands are weak. Producing the work is your job, and the IB checks authenticity carefully.

Yes, within 14 days of the payment date, as long as no credit from the pack has been used; once any credit from it has been used, the pack is not refunded. Using your free daily check does not count, and a check that fails on our side gives its credit back automatically. Credits do not expire, and they belong to your account, so they also work wherever else TestPrep offers the grader.

It is an estimate from the published criteria, and it is most useful for seeing which criterion is costing you marks. Your teacher, the IB’s moderation and, for the Extended Essay, the IB’s examiners decide the real mark.

Related programs

Other preparation tracks students often combine with this one.

  • AI study tools

Two tools, both prepaid rather than subscriptions: an AI tutor for working through questions, bought as time, and a grader for IB coursework, bought as credits. Neither replaces a tutor, and neither pretends to.

  • IB Diploma Tutoring

Subject-specialist tutoring for IB Diploma students, at Higher and Standard Level, covering taught content, internal assessments and the core. The plan follows your school’s deadlines.

  • IB Pricing

The Diploma is not one thing to buy. Six subjects, an extended essay, internal assessments and TOK each need something different, and they are priced separately here so you can buy only what you need.

Want a tutor to read it too?

The grader shows where the marks are being lost. An IB tutor can work through the fixes with you, criterion by criterion, before your deadline.
