Vocabulary is what you are really budgeting for
GRE Quantitative is school mathematics examined cleverly, and most candidates can be brought up to a competitive score in a defined number of lessons. Verbal is different, because a large part of it rests on a vocabulary that cannot be acquired in a fortnight. That asymmetry should drive the plan: start vocabulary months before you start lessons, so that the lessons are spent on reasoning and technique rather than on words you could have learned for free.
The shortened format sharpens this. With 55 questions instead of the old eighty-odd, each one carries more weight, and a slow start is harder to recover from because there is less test left to recover in. Candidates who are strong but slow now lose more than they used to, which makes pacing work — cheap, quick, and easy to drill — unusually good value on this exam.
Check whether your programme wants the GRE at all
A growing number of graduate programmes have made the GRE optional or dropped it. Before budgeting for preparation, confirm in writing whether each programme on your list requires it, recommends it, or ignores it — and whether a strong score still helps where it is optional.
One-to-one lesson packages
Every lesson is 90 minutes with the same tutor. The per-lesson rate falls as the package grows, and the single lesson exists so you can meet a tutor before committing to a block.
