Where marks are actually lost
The rubric rewards a gap identified in existing literature, a method chosen because it answers that question, honest limitations and a conclusion that does not overreach. An ambitious topic with a method that cannot support it scores below a modest question answered rigorously — which is the reverse of the instinct most students arrive with.
The oral defence assesses whether you can justify your choices under questioning: why this sample, why not that method, what you would do differently. Students who wrote the paper collaboratively or leaned heavily on help cannot answer those questions, which is precisely why the defence exists. We supervise the reasoning and never write the work.
The date is not yours to move
AP exams sit in a fixed May window set by the College Board, so preparation has a hard deadline a private schedule cannot shift. If your school does not teach this course, you are buying a full year of teaching rather than top-up lessons, and starting in February is a materially different proposition from starting in September.
